Swiss Steak, My Way

Wayne requested Swiss steak for dinner. I looked at different recipes and their ingredients, not really finding it made the way I wanted it, so, I played around and came up with this version.

Ingredients:

5 cubed steaks

1 large onion, minced

1 bell pepper, minced

1 celery stalk, minced

1 large carrot, minced

A little flour, salt and pepper

Directions:

Mince all your veggies and set aside
Make your Tomato Gravy aka Creamed Tomatoes, mix in minced veggies and set aside.Mix flour, salt and pepper, dredge meat in flour mixture coating well, brown meat in a little oil and butter.

Place cube steaks in crock pot. Top with tomato gravy/veggie mixture Cook for 2 to 4 hours or until the meat is as tender as you prefer. Makes about 5 servings

I served this with Mashed Potatoes, Corn, Biscuits and Cantaloupe on the side. It satisfied his craving for Swiss Steak and my need to increase the nutritional value and decrease the fats a little.

Try it and let me know what you think!

  1. That's kind of how I do my swiss steak. I do have to say as someone who has already had the surgery that is a LOT of carbs on one plate though. Potatoes, corn, biscuit ... girl you're going to be in trouble if you eat that many carbs often. Start trying to cut them now so you won't feel so deprived after surgery. I still eat carbs, and more than many as my NUT says 30 g per meal is okay. A lot of others eat almost none. I think that's insane! Love your recipes. Thanks for sharing them.
